MSc in Project Management Practice

This MSc in Project Management Practice programme is aimed at experienced managers who are new to project management, or those who have some experience in project management and are wanting to develop their skills or move into a leadership role. This programme will cover a range of topics including:

  • The core principles of project management
  • Quality, time, cost, benefits and risks
  • Lifecycles, planning and monitoring projects
  • How to utilise individual styles and strengths in a business environment
  • Theory and practice of leadership
  • Skills in negotiation, decision-making, motivation and delegation
  • Conflict management

By analyses of their own strengths and areas of interest, students will create their own individual learning plan to help make the most of their studies and learn which areas they want to focus their own development. This course puts an emphasis on practical application, with the goal of preparing students for their final dissertation which explores an area of interest or a business need with direct relevance to their own project work.

Application and Admission Requirements

 Those without an academic qualification may still apply for an experience-only entry onto the course.

The standard entry requirements are one of the following options:

  • An honours degree with classification 2.2 or better in any subject from a UK university or the equivalent from a recognised university overseas with:
    • evidence of two or more years’ relevant work experience in project management or a team role
    • and two or more appropriate references
  • A University of Hertfordshire's Graduate Certificate in Business or equivalent with:
    • evidence of two or more years’ relevant work experience in project management or a team role
    • and two or more appropriate references 
  • A degree equivalent professional qualification
    • evidence of two or more years’ relevant work experience in project management or a team role
    • and two or more appropriate references or; •
  • Evidence of four or more years’ relevant work experience in project management or a team role
    • and two or more appropriate references

Students will also be asked to complete a personal statement which highlights their pertinent experience and motivation for completing the course. In some cases, an entrance interview may be used to confirm the experience and establish suitability.
