Developing Influential Business Leaders...Today
The Texas MBA is built around four key pillars to educate tomorrow’s leaders: Knowledge and Understanding; Responsibility and Integrity; Communication and Collaboration; and a Worldview of Business and Society.
With a world-renowned faculty that boasts groundbreaking research, easy access to industry leaders and myriad opportunities for real-world experience—like the innovative Texas MBA+ Leadership Program —McCombs creates knowledge that has critical significance for industry and society.
Building Knowledge – The Academic Foundation
The Texas MBA offers diverse opportunities through academic concentrations and market-driven specializations in Finance; Marketing; Information, Risk and Operations Management; and Entrepreneurship. The flexible classroom offerings and internationally renowned faculty at McCombs enable MBAs to establish a foundation for leadership, whatever the field.
Enhancing Leadership – Your Skills
In addition to case- and lecture-based teaching methods, 35% of the Texas MBA experience is focused on keeping you in direct contact with industry. Through the Texas MBA+ Leadership Program, practicums and international study opportunities, MBAs augment the classroom experience and enhance their resumes.
Application and Admission Requirements
We recognize that the decision to get an M.B.A. is one of the more important decisions of your career. That's why our admissions staff dedicates itself to a meticulous, holistic review of each application. Our ultimate objective is to get a firm sense of each applicant as a person in order to determine if he or she is a good fit for McCombs and to be sure that McCombs is a good fit for them.
We carefully search for those students whose work and educational experience will allow them to make full use of the opportunities and resources afforded by the program in order to allow McCombs to help them fully develop their potential as business leaders and guide them into a world of post-MBA possibilities.
The Texas MBA Curriculum
The McCombs curriculum prepares students to lead, build, and manage enterprises that create value for stakeholders and constituencies in a dynamic, global economy. The hallmarks of the Texas MBA include a common educational experience that prepares all students for success, a collaborative rather than competitive learning environment, market-driven concentrations, and program flexibility.
The Basics
Our goal is to give all MBAs the same grounding in the fundamentals of business and to endow them with general management competence. Through the core, the faculty seeks to instill business skills and values.
Flexibility
Unlike many programs, our students are not required to choose a concentration. You have the option of customizing your own program based on your unique strengths and interests, your perceptions of what employers want, and your own conclusions about how best to prepare yourself for a successful career. And whether or not you pursue one of our established concentrations, our MBA academic advisors can help you chart the course of your degree program.
The Core
The core consists of eleven required classes (23 hours) taken during the first year of the MBA program. Additionally, students take three electives in the spring semester of their first year to begin to customize their degree.
